How to budget a clothing photoshoot and compare alternatives

Estimate a clothing shoot from deliverables, preparation, usage rights and revision time. Compare costs per accepted image rather than headline prices.

There is no meaningful universal price for a clothing photoshoot. Ten flat-lay images and a campaign with a model, location and advertising rights are different purchases. Start with a written brief before asking for quotes.

Specify the deliverables

List the number of garments, views per garment, required detail shots, final dimensions and background. State who prepares and steams clothes, whether a model is needed and where images will be used. Ask about delivery dates, usage rights, revisions, travel and taxes rather than assuming they are included.

Request comparable quotes for the same brief. A low day rate may exclude editing, while a per-image quote may include preparation. Keep those categories visible.

Calculate the cost of usable output

Use this planning formula:

Total cost = preparation + capture or generation + editing and review + rights and extras.

Illustrative example in arbitrary budget units: a project costs 240 for 40 accepted photos, so its direct cost is 6 per accepted photo. If only 24 meet the brief, the same spending becomes 10 per accepted photo. These are arithmetic examples, not market prices.

When DIY or AI makes sense

Your own phone photos can document a unique used item’s condition without hiring a team. Include your time, even if no invoice exists. AI visualisation can help with permitted creative or product presentations, but review and rejected outputs still cost time and allowance.

Vougly uses subscriptions with one unit per generation. Compare allowance and billing periods separately; current prices appear in the app. No fixed completion time or savings percentage is promised.

If the destination is Vinted, start with the own-photo requirement. Paying for a different visual workflow does not make a non-compliant output useful.
